Navi: Review including benchmarks of AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 appeared

In two days, AMD’s Radeon Navi graphics cards will launch. Now a whole review including benchmarks of the RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 has gone online too early.

Radeon Navi must now compete against Nvidia Super

With the Radeon Navi graphics cards, AMD wanted to bring another top seller into the upper mainstream market after Vega and Polaris. The company has therefore positioned the RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 models against the RTX 2070 and RTX 2060. Depending on the game and resolution, they should exceed these by up to 20 percent. AMD’s main argument should also be the lower price. The RX 5700 XT will be available for $449, the RX 5700 for $379. With this combination of good performance and low price, AMD would have made a decent offer on the market.

Nvidia had already disrupted the competitor before the launch without much trouble. With the introduction of the new Nvidia Super series, the company has reshuffled the cards. The graphics cards come with more cores and in the case of the RTX 2060 Super also with more memory. Appropriately, they outperform their non-super counterparts by between 13 and 20 percent – the performance argument for AMD is thus gone. The prices are also completely reasonable with $399 for the RTX 2060 Super and $499 for the RTX 2070 Super. The RTX 2070 Super and RTX 2080 Super also replace their predecessors.

Full review of RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 online too early

Now the question remains, what the RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 can do compared to the new RTX 2070 Super and RTX 2060 Super. The question will be finally resolved at the launch, but until then there is also a huge leak that reveal some things. As Videocardz reports, the Polish website Benchmark.pl has accidentally put a review of the two Radeon Navi graphics cards online. It’s probably really an accident, because a short time later the review was offline again. In the forums of OCUK and PCLab users could keep screenshots of the benchmarks.

Benchmark.pl mentions in the article that the driver is apparently still in beta and did not allow overclocking. They benchmarked the three games Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Wolfenstein II The New Colossus and Far Cry 5, each on highest settings in Full HD and WQHD. In addition, there were the Fire Strike and Time Spy benchmarks from 3DMark as well as the power consumption of the entire system. An Intel Core i9-9900K was used as the processor and two 8 gigabytes of DDR4-32000 modules as RAM.

RX 5700 XT mostly inferior to RTX 2070 Super

Of course, the benchmarks of three games and two synthetic benchmarks don’t give complete information about how the graphics cards generally perform. However, this does indicate a tendency in which direction AMD is heading. It turns out that the RTX 2070 Super becomes the fate of the RX 5700 XT as planned by Nvidia. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the RTX 2070 Super performs seven percent better on WQHD (83 vs. 77 FPS), and eight percent better on Full HD (114 vs. 106 FPS). The RX 5700 XT is both times faster than the RTX 2070 (Non-Super) and comes close to the GTX 1080 Ti. With Far Cry 5 the distance is clearly smaller. On WQHD, the RTX 2070 Super beats the RX 5700 XT by only two percent, on Full HD it’s three percent. There also the RTX 2070 pushes itself once again in front of the Navi GPU.

Wolfenstein II The New Colossus is particularly interesting. On WQHD, the RX 5700 XT is even defeated by the RX Vega 64 and the RTX 2060. The distance to the RTX 2070 Super is 37 percent. The distance on Full HD shrinks to 33 percent. Now the GPU is also superior to the RX Vega 64 again. The results of Time Spy and Fire Strike are also interesting. In the DX12 benchmark Time Spy both Navi models are defeated by the RTX 2060 Super, the distance between RX 5700 XT and RTX 2070 Super is 13 percent. The situation is different with Fire Strike, the DX11 benchmark. Here, the RX 5700 XT is two percent ahead.

RX 5700 always superior to RX Vega 64, sometimes on par with RTX 2060 Super

The benchmarks are similar when you look at the RX 5700. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Far Cry 5, it is just ahead of the RTX 2060 Super. The RTX 2060 (Non Super) is between 12 and 19 percent behind in these benchmarks, which is probably also due to the memory difference. Wolfenstein II The New Colossus looks different again. Here, the RX 5700 is 30 and 24 percent slower on WQHD and 41 and 35 percent slower than the RTX 2060 Super and RTX 2060. In Time Spy, the RTX 2060 is finally again slightly inferior or on a par, while the RTX 2060 is 12 percent faster. In Fire Strike, the RX 5700 beats the RTX 2060 Super by four percent, the RTX 2070 is 10 percent faster.

Navi needs less power than Super

Last but not least, the electricity consumption measured by Benchmark.pl is interesting. This is the consumption of the entire system in gameplay. The system with the RX 5700 XT consumed 280 watts, which is 1 watt less than the RTX 2070 and 13 watts less than the RTX 2070 Super. Also with the RX 5700 the value is good. It consumes 247 watts in the overall system, 14 watts less than the RTX 2060 Super with 261 watts and six watts more than the RTX 2060. The comparison with the RX 570, which consumes the same amount, is also interesting. With 259 watts, the RX 580 is two watts above the RX 5700.
