The AMD Radeon Navi graphics cards RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 will launch soon. Now the first pictures of the reference and retail packaging leaked out.

AMD Navi launches in four days

In four days, it’ll be time. Then AMD releases the new Radeon Navi graphics cards onto the market. The RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 will be available first in a reference version with radial fan. AMD unfortunately does not use an axial fan design for Navi, as was the case with the Radeon VII. The company justifies this with the development of heat. They wanted to make sure that a Radeon graphics card could run in every system – and on some computers that could only be done with radial fans.

The two graphics cards will primarily compete against the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 and RTX 2070, but since yesterday there is already a newer version of the graphics cards: the RTX 2060 Super and RTX 2070 Super. Nvidia threw it on the market completely out of nowhere and after only one month of teasing. They perform 15 to 20 percent better than the non-super versions, making them the real opponents for the RX 5700 XT and RX 5700. The two Radeon GPUs outperform the RTX 2060 and RTX 2070 AMD by a good 10 to 20 percent, depending on the benchmark. Against the super GPUs, Navi could have a hard time.

Packaging of the reference version leaked out

Nevertheless, AMD prepares the launch as usual. This also includes the reference versions. These are available both directly from AMD and from the company’s board partners. AMD’s store also sells the Radeon RX 5700 XT 50th Anniversary Edition, which is clocked a bit higher than the regular RX 5700 XT. This version will not be available from the board partners, but only from AMD directly.

The approaching launch now brings the first pictures of the packaging to light. The Twitter user momomo_us has posted an Imgur album with pictures of the packaging of the reference versions and some manufacturer versions. Interestingly, AMD has used Nvidia’s Turing GPUs as an inspiration for the packaging of the reference versions. There is an upright box, whose upper part can be removed. The graphic card is shown on the lower part. The RX 5700 XT’s protruding bend was also highlighted once again. The upright graphics card also comes to the fore. The box of the normal RX 5700 XT is designed with red accents, in the 50th Anniversary Edition the accents are golden. Somewhat more boring is the RX 5700, which comes in a box that can be pulled out regularly. It looks similar with the boxes of the board partners. With this generation AMD apparently does without the otherwise quite present red corner with the “R”. The size of the VRAM and the PCIe 4.0 capability have been highlighted.
