After the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X, the Ryzen 9 3900X also showed up in Geekbench. This processor gets close to the Intel Core i9-9980XE as well.

Ryzen 9 3900X appears in benchmark

The rumour mill has a lot to do at the moment. In addition to the Nvidia Super Graphics Cards launched on the 2nd of July, new AMD graphics cards and processors will be launched on the 7th of July. While the competition between AMD and Nvidia is intense in the graphics card sector, there are many who are curious about the new Ryzen 3000 processors. With up to 16 cores AMD has a lot ahead of its competitor Intel. In addition, there is a new manufacturing process, a new approach with several dies, a significantly increased IPC and a further increase in clock rate.

Even before the official start of the processors, benchmarks repeatedly appear. A complete review of the Ryzen 5 3600 has been published, and there are already two Geekbench results for the 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X. In the first benchmark, the processor performed below the actual specification in terms of clock rate. In the second, the 16-core was then allowed to clock up to 5.2 GHz. But one thing was immediately clear in both benchmarks: the new processor comes close to Intel’s top model with high single-core performance. Both results are better than the result of the Intel Core i9-9980XE, the multi-core result of the second run with 5.2 GHz even by 40 percent. Now the Ryzen 9 3900X with 12 cores has also appeared in the Geekbench – and again competes with the i9-9980XE.

Ryzen 9 3900X on par with i9-9980XE

The benchmark was found by the Thai APISAK as so often before. It is again a Geekbench 4 benchmark, this time from the Ryzen 9 3900X with a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master. As RAM 16 GB DDR4 memory were built in – the clock was probably read wrong with 1 MHz. The processor itself ran on 3.8 base clock and 4.5 GHz boost clock. The boost is below the actual specification of up to 4.6 GHz. In this setting, the Ryzen 9 3900 X achieved 5 905 points in the single-core test and 44 849 points in the multicore test.

This score is extremely impressive. If you compare it with other processors, these are almost entirely underneath it. The Intel Core i9-9920X, with 12 cores, achieves on average between 4,800 and 5,200 single-core and between 36,000 and 39,000 multi-core points. The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2920X, also with 12 cores, achieves only 4,602 single-core and 32,265 multicore points. The Ryzen 9 3900X even comes close to the i9-9980XE. It scores 5,380 points in single-core and 46,638 points in multicore. Thus, the Ryzen 9 3900X is a good 10 percent better in the single core, while the i9-9980XE is four percent ahead in the multicore. But note that the i9-9980XE with 18 cores has six cores more than the Ryzen 9 3900X. Compared to the 2920X threadripper, the Ryzen 3000 processor is 28 percent faster in single-core and 39 percent faster in multi-core testing.
