AMD’s board partner Sapphire has registered several new models at EEC. Among them are also the Radeon RX 5950 XT and the RX 5900 XT.

How much further does AMD Navi expand?

At the E3 2019 AMD finally presented the new Radeon Navi generation. This is a new generation of graphics cards that uses an architecture called Radeon DNA, or RDNA for short, instead of the GCN architecture. The first two models are called Radeon RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 and are the main opponents of the RTX 2070 and RTX 2060 (or the upcoming Nvidia Super models). The graphics cards are manufactured at TSMC with a 7nm structure width and are expected to have a significantly higher IPC and better efficiency.

AMD has placed the two already known Navi graphics cards in the upper middle class. The company is focussing on one of the most lucrative markets ever. The high end is ignored for now. The beginner class also does not currently receive any navigation graphics cards. Even before the start of the new generation, there were rumours that AMD was already planning new models in 2020, which would then also play a role in high-end. Also underneath the RX 5700 there would be plenty of room. Therefore, it would be logical for AMD to expand the series in both directions. That may not have been the end of the line yet – but there is also evidence that this is the case.

Sapphire registered Radeon RX 5950 XT, RX 5900 XT and other models

Board partner Sapphire now provides a first hint that further models of AMD’s navigation graphics cards are planned. The company has registered 19 until now unknown graphic cards with the European Eurasian Commission (EEC), as the Twitter user Komachi discovered. In particular, these are the model designations RX 5950 XT, RX 5950, RX 5850 XT, RX 5850, RX 5800 XT, RX 5800, RX 5750 XT, RX 5650 XT, RX 5650, RX 5600 XT, RX 5600, RX 5500 XT, RX 5500, and RX 590 XT, which Sapphire has always used in relation to its own company name.

In fact, these are probably substitutes. Sapphire has already registered all possible combinations for the worst-case scenario. The fact that so many different models are coming onto the market would then be rather unlikely. However, the company’s behaviour shows that there are probably more graphics cards planned for the Radeon Navi series. AMD also named the new generation “RX 5000 Series” at the Computex presentation and kept all possibilities open. That the first graphics cards of the new series are called RX 5700 (XT) also allows space up and down. Especially interesting is the fact that Sapphire also reserved the steps of the 50s. In the past they already had dual GPUs with graphics cards like the RX 295X. It is possible that AMD is also planning two chips on one graphics card for the Navi generation. Looks like we’ll be able to stay excited.
