The third Ryzen generation is just around the corner. Two retailers have now listed the Ryzen 9 3800X, Ryzen 7 3700X and Ryzen 5 3600X with technical data.

Ryzen 3000: are 16 cores actually realistic?

AMD is taking a big leap forward on several levels with the upcoming Ryzen generation. The manufacturing technology changes from 14nm to 7nm. The processor structure is completely different with a management chip and smaller dies with the actual processor cores. And the number of cores rises sharply, as does the clock rate. The IPC is also said to have risen by up to 15 percent.

Above all, the sharp increase in the number of cores still leaves many in doubt that AMD is actually doing this. So the top series should carry the name Ryzen 9 and come with the Ryzen 9 3850X and the Ryzen 9 3800X. The special thing about it is that the processors should have 16 cores. The Ryzen 7 series is named the same as the predecessors and come with the Ryzen 7 3700X and the Ryzen 7 3700, but the processors are said to have 12 cores. The Ryzen 5 series now comes with eight cores, which were previously reserved for the Ryzen 7 series.

Even Lisa Su confirmed that AMD relies on more than eight cores during a preview at CES 2019. Two chiplets are mounted on the package, each of which could hold eight cores. Therefore 16 cores could be installed on an AM4 package. Leaked benchmarks currently confirm only 12 cores. Whether the Ryzen 9 series actually contains 16 cores will probably only be revealed at the product launch. A new listing now indicates 16, 12 and eight cores again.

Two Online Shops List Ryzen 9 3800X, Ryzen 7 3700X and Ryzen 5 3600X and Other Processors

A total of 14 listings from two shops have emerged. The user R0H1T posted the links in the TechPowerUp forum. The Vietnamese site nguyencongpc.vn lists the AMD Ryzen 9 3800X. The Turkish site ebrarbilgisayar.com also lists the processor already. On both sides you can also find the Ryzen 7 3700X and the Ryzen 5 3600X. Also other processors like the Ryzen 5 3600 and the Ryzen 7 3700 are listed on both pages.

Interestingly, the technical data on both pages are identical. On the data sheet of the Ryzen 9 3800X are 3.9 GHz standard and 4.7 GHz boost clock as well as 16 cores, 32 MB cache and 125 watts TDP. The Ryzen 7 3700X has 4.2 GHz standard and 5.0 GHz boost clock with 12 cores and 24 MB cache as well as a TDP of 105 watts. The Ryzen 5 3600X comes according to the two stores with 4.0 GHz standard and 4.8 GHz boost clock with eight cores, 16 MB cache and 95 watts TDP.

Other models are also listed on both pages, including the Non-X versions of Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5. The Ryzen 7 3700 comes with 3.8 GHz standard and 4.6 GHz boost clock, 12 cores and 24 MB cache. Compared to its predecessor, the TDP has risen to 95 watts. According to the two shops, the Ryzen 5 3600 has a standard clock of 3.6 GHz, the boost clock is 4.4 GHz. The TDP, which is only mentioned in the Vietnamese shop, is said to be 55 watts, which can also be a typo. Also listed is the Ryzen 3 3300X, which comes with six cores, 12 MB cache and 3.5 GHz standard and 4.3 GHz turbo clock.

Information not confirmed

How realistic the processor listings actually are is very difficult to say at the moment. The fact that the technical data on both pages are independently identical suggests that this could already be pre-released information from AMD. But the product image of the Ryzen 9 3800X speaks against it. Here both shops have used the image of another Ryzen processor and digitally inserted the 9 on the box. The Vietnamese shop has also listed a Ryzen 3 3300G, which is still unknown. The listing speaks of six cores, but the APUs Ryzen 5 3400G and Ryzen 3 3200G, which have already been leaked with clock rates, do not come with a 7nm structure width. They continue to rely on 12nm structure width and on four cores. A Ryzen 3 3300G in between would be rather unlikely.

A further indication against the listings are the specified clock rates and TDP values. These coincide one to one with the leak of AdoredTV from December 2018. It could therefore simply be placeholders that the webshop operators have inserted in hope of the virality of the information. This does not necessarily mean that the information about the processors is authentic. AMD should release the Ryzen 3000 generation at Computex 2019, by then we will know more.
