Sapphire has told the Chinese press some details about AMD Navi. Two models for 399 and 499 US dollars are planned. Release is on July 7th.
AMD Navi: Two models for 399 and 499 US dollars
With Navi, AMD intends to have a good relaunch in the graphics card market. The new architecture comes with a 7nm structure width and is intended to be particularly convincing in the price-performance segment. AMD has chosen the RTX 2070 from Nvidia as its main opponent. The Radeon VII will continue to serve the high-end segment.
While there has been a lot of speculation about models and prices since December, there is now for the first time more or less “concrete” information. A PR manager of AMD board partner Sapphire has published some details about Navi to the Chinese press (entry no longer available), as Videocardz reports. According to the PR manager, AMD is currently preparing two models. The weaker model should have the suffix “Pro”, while the stronger model actually has the suffix “XT”. The cheaper model has an MSRP of 399 US dollars, the more expensive model is said to be available for 499 US dollars. There is also information on performance and the release date.
Performance over RTX 2060 and RTX 2070, release on July 7th
The Sapphire PR manager has also provided information on performance. Accordingly, the main opponents of the Navi Pro and Navi XT graphics cards are the RTX 2060 and the RTX 2070. The Pro version should be above the RTX 2060, while the XT version should be faster than the RTX 2070. The PR manager also commented on the features. So Navi should not support Raytracing on hardware level. This is planned for the next generation coming next year.
Sapphire has even provided information for the release date. Thus Lisa Su will already show the two models at the keynote at Computex on May 27. The actual release will then take place on July 7. The day had already been discussed several times in advance, because thanks to the date (7/7) it would fit well to the release of 7nm products. On this day, the Ryzen 3000 processors, which will also be presented at the Computex keynote, will go on sale alongside the Navi graphics cards. It also fits in with the latest official information AMD has provided itself. Accordingly, Ryzen 3000, Navi and Epyc 2 will start in the third quarter.
Water-cooled Toxic version and other custom designs of Navi in progress
Sapphire naturally also commented on its own products at the meeting. The PR manager announced that they are already working on new custom versions of the Navi graphics cards. In addition, a Toxic version with water cooling is finished already. There were also details about the Radeon VII. No further custom designs are planned for this card. This means that the Radeon VII will probably not be available as a custom version in the future, but only in the dress of the reference version.
