GTX 1650: technical data leaked, 4 gigabytes of GDDR5 memory confirmed

Nvidia adds two more models to its mid-range and entry-level range. Now technical data and marketing material of the GTX 1650 leaked out.

The GTX 1650 is expected to be the smallest Turing GPU

With the Turing generation, Nvidia has slightly changed the performance scale and started with the launch of the strongest graphics cards. In September 2018, the RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080 launched as the strongest Turing GPUs for horrendously high prices. After that the RTX 2070 and later the RTX 2060 followed. Recently Nvidia finally served the mainstream market and launched the GTX 1660 Ti. Although the graphics card comes with Turing architecture, it does without the Raytracing and DLSS features introduced for the first time with Turing. This also eliminates the need for special tensor and RT cores, which should make the graphics card cheaper.

The GTX 1660 Ti is positioned much closer to the mainstream on the performance level of the GTX 1070. But there are still some smaller graphics cards missing, which are also useful for beginners. Therefore the GTX 1660 and the GTX 1650 should start in the next two months. The GTX 1650 is supposed to be the smallest model of the Turing series, with which Nvidia would have completely finished the transition to the new generation. Now technical details and marketing materials of the smallest Turing GPU have been leaked for the first time.

GTX 1650 comes with 4 gigabyte of GDDR5 memory

Already in the run-up to the GTX 1660 Ti launch it was rumored that the 16 series of the Turing generation could also rely on other memory to keep costs down. Turing relies on GDDR6 for the first time, which is clearly more expensive in comparison to GDDR5, but also faster. The GTX 1660 Ti launched with 6 gigabytes of GDDR6 memory, which is slower than the memory of the RTX graphics cards.

For the GTX 1660 and GTX 1650, however, GDDR5 memory could now be used for further cost optimization. This is now confirmed for the first time by a leak from TUM APISAK. The Thai has posted a screenshot of a 3DMark entry in which the GTX 1650 seems to be used in a notebook. The storage capacity is given as 4,096 megabytes, i.e. 4 gigabytes. However, the bus clock is too low for GDDR6 memory, which is why it must be GDDR5 memory. With a 128 bit interface and a 2,000 MHz memory clock, the graphics card achieves a memory bandwidth of 128 GB/s. The graphics card itself clocks at 1,395 MHz base clock.

Marketing material leaked out

The first marketing material for the GTX 1650 is already available. Hardwareluxx author Andreas Schilling has posted the first design elements of the graphics card on Twitter. These design elements can be found on every packaging of the board partner graphic cards. Schilling has already done this with other graphics cards and was right, which is why this also confirms the general existence of a GTX 1650. So it won’t be long until the graphics card hits the shelves.
