Nvidia completes the Turing generation with the GeForce GTX 1650. Now a leaked benchmark shows a performance above the Radeon RX 570.

GTX 1650: The smallest Turing is coming

With Turing, Nvidia has brought raytracing to the fore. Due to the high cost of raytracing hardware consisting of tensor and RT cores and the generally high performance required for the ray technology, however, the company has a different tactic for the entry-level and middle class. With the recently introduced GTX 1660 Ti and GTX 1660 there are already two graphics cards of the GTX 16 series. With them, Nvidia brought the GTX lettering back from the retirement and appropriately also cancelled the raytracing hardware. To save costs, there are special chip variants without tensor and RT cores. This means that the graphics cards can be produced and sold much more cheaply. With the GTX 1660, Nvidia also saves memory and simply uses GDDR5 instead of GDDR6 memory.

With the GTX 1660 and 1660 Ti, the company has positioned two very strong and efficient graphics cards in the middle class. They primarily compete against the RX 590 and the RX Vega 56 from AMD and do not expect any real competition until Radeon Navi is introduced. But Nvidia also wants to enter the entry-level market. Soon the GTX 1650 comes on the market, which from now on is the smallest Turing model. Now a benchmark and the launch date have appeared.

GTX 1650 is faster than RX 570 and almost as fast as GTX 1060 3 GB

Shortly before the launch of the new graphics card, the first bits of information are already available. Today’s benchmark comes, as so often, from the Final Fantasy XV database. This is where the GTX 1650 appears in the 1920×1080 High Quality benchmark. The placement is also interesting. Thus, with 3,803 points it achieves the rank above the Radeon RX 570 from AMD, and is only a good 100 points below the GTX 1060 with 3 GB GDDR5 memory. Especially the comparison to the GTX 1060 is interesting, because the performance increase is considerable compared to the previous generation. The GTX 1650 replaces the GTX 1050 Ti. The comparison to the Radeon graphics card, however, is somewhat unfair, since AMD GPUs generally perform worse in the FFXV benchmark. Realistically, the performance of the GTX 1650 is probably only at the level of the RX 570 in some games, but it is clearly outperforming the GTX 1050 Ti and sometimes comes close to the performance of the GTX 1060 3 GB.

Launch on April 22nd

There is also a first date for the launch of the GTX 1650. Videocardz has been informed by the Nvidia board partners about the 22nd of April as the launch date. Then the graphics card should go on sale, but the embargo for reviews or unboxings could be different. As already with the GTX 1660 and GTX 1660 Ti there is no Founders Edition from Nvidia, so the graphics cards only come with the designs of the board partners.

Videocardz has also learned that there should also be a GTX 1650 Ti, for which, however, no data is known yet. The 1650 is supposed to come on the market with 4 gigabyte GDDR5 memory, the number of CUDA cores is still unknown, but the chip is supposed to be called TU117. The 1650 Ti could then come on the market as a version with GDDR6 memory. Further information is not yet available.
