AMD Ryzen 3000 listed, Ryzen 9 3800X has 16 cores and 125 Watts TDP

An online retailer has listed a number of Ryzen 3000 processors, codenamed Matisse. This confirms already leaked information.

AMD starts the new year with 7nm and many cores

With the Ryzen processors, AMD triggered a small revolution two years ago. The Zen architecture brought life to the market with new approaches and forced even the market leader Intel to rely on more cores. The refresh last year further improved the structure, but the next generation is experiencing a much greater change. With Ryzen 3000, AMD relies on the once again improved Zen 2 architecture. The main difference is the shrink from 14 or 12nm to 7nm. The company is also switching from Globalfoundries as a manufacturer to TSMC.

The shrink to 7nm brings some far-reaching advantages for the processors. On the one hand, the energy efficiency is significantly better, which means either less consumption with the same performance, more performance with the same consumption, or a mixture of both. Another advantage is the space saved. Smaller dies require significantly less space. This allows AMD to further increase the core count with the same sockets, as has already happened with Epyc 2 aka Rome. This is also possible with Ryzen on the socket AM4. Already some time ago the YouTuber AdoredTV leaked the entire Ryzen 3000 lineup and brought up to 16 cores for the first time as a new Ryzen 9 series. Ryzen 3 therefore has six, Ryzen 5 eight and Ryzen 7 twelve cores. A Russian online shop has now also listed Ryzen 3000 processors, which confirm the data.

Ryzen 9 3800X with 16 cores and 125 Watts TDP appeared

The online shop E-Katalog has recently started listing several Ryzen 3000 models with the code name Matisse. The most powerful model is the Ryzen 9 3800X with 16 cores, 125 Watt TDP and a boost clock of 4.7 GHz. The Ryzen 7 3700X and 3700 as well as the Ryzen 5 3600X and 3600 can already be found in the shop. The smallest Ryzen 3 series is represented by the 3300X and 3300. The data is identical with the data from AdoredTV. Both the TDP and the number of cores, even the boost clock is correct.

Market launch already shortly after the CES 2019?

It is rather unusual that the first listings are already appearing at dealers before the official presentation. AMD has normally planned a certain time interval between the presentation and the launch of the first products. Ryzen 2000 was launched in February 2018, but was not available until the end of April. AMD may therefore be planning a much earlier launch. The presentation of the new generation is expected for the Consumer Electronics Show 2019 in Las Vegas, which will take place from January 8th to 12th. The first listing could mean that Ryzen 3000 will be launched either directly at the show or shortly thereafter. The other possibility, however, is that the Russian retailer has simply inserted placeholders with the data from AdoredTV. We will probably only know exactly when the new generation of Ryzen starts at CES.
