A leak shows that AMD Ryzen 3000 has more cores and a high clock rate. The Ryzen 9 3850X should have 16 cores and reach up to 5.1 GHz.

Zen 2: 7nm brings many cores and high clock rate

AMD is on the verge of the next generation of Ryzen processors. It is based on the Zen 2 architecture, a further development of Zen. The biggest change in the architecture compared to the predecessors is probably the structure width. Instead of 14nm AMD now uses 7nm, probably also with EUV. Due to the even smaller structure width there are chances for efficiency on the one hand, but also for performance on the other hand. Due to the better efficiency, the clock rate can be significantly increased. In addition, significantly less space is required that can be used for other purposes. AMD has already shown this with the presentation of Epyc 2 alias Rome. The new processor family now uses up to 64 cores distributed over eight dies, called chiplets. In the middle there is a central management chip, which manages the chiplets, the cache and the main memory. AMD could also install significantly more cores in Ryzen 3000, as a leak shows.

Ryzen 3000: up to 16 cores, up to 5.1 GHz clock rate

The leak comes once again from AdoredTV, which recently also published information on Navi GPUs with a performance level of the RTX 2070. The YouTuber has received information about Ryzen 3000, including exact specifications of the upcoming models. This information is also backed by Kyle Bennet from HardOCP, who has recently been working closely with AMD. He says that a lot, but not everything, is true. AdoredTV has also been right about a few leaks in the past.

Ryzen 3000 Specs Leak

AMD therefore also relied on the chip design from Epyc 2 for Ryzen 3000, according to which Ryzen 3000 also has a central management chip on a 14nm basis to which two chiplets with a 7nm structure width are connected. Each chiplet has up to eight cores. This means that a total of up to 16 cores can be accommodated on a Ryzen 3000 processor. According to AdoredTV, these 16 cores will be reserved for the new Ryzen 9 series. The Ryzen 9 3800X and the Ryzen 9 3850X will be the flagships. The company clocked their 16 cores to 3.9 and 4.3 GHz respectively in standard clock, while the boost clock should even reach 4.7 GHz for the 3800X and 5.1 GHz for the 3850X. This probably means the clock speed on one core, but the values are still remarkable considering that the Ryzen 7 2700X clocks at 4.25 GHz in boost. However, the high clock rate is also bought by a higher TDP. So the Ryzen 9 3800X reaches 125 watts TDP, the Ryzen 9 3850X even 135 watts.

Among them are the new Ryzen 7 models called Ryzen 7 3700 and Ryzen 7 3700X. They come with 12 cores and 24 threads and rely on 95 respectively 105 Watt TDP. The base clock should be 3.8 GHz for the 3700 and 4.2 GHz for the 3700X. In boost, the two models should achieve 4.6 GHz and a whole 5.0 GHz. To get 12 cores, two cores are deactivated in each die.

The entry now takes place with six cores

AMD also seems to have improved in the entry-level segment. The Ryzen 3 3300 seems to be the entry level. It comes with six cores and 12 threads. The processor clocks to 3.2 GHz standard and 4.0 GHz boost clock and has a TDP of 50 watts. The Ryzen 3 3300X, which also has six cores and 12 threads, is supposed to be a somewhat higher clocked model. It clocks to 3.5 GHz standard and 4.3 GHz boost clock at 65 Watt TDP. In the third quarter of 2019, a Ryzen 3 3300G will also be launched as an APU model. It is similar to the other Ryzen 3 models and clocks at 3.0 GHz standard and 3.8 GHz boost clock. The graphics unit comes with 15 Navi CUs. In order to get six cores for Ryzen 3 one of the two 8 core-dies is completely deactivated, while in the second die two cores are switched off.

In the middle class AMD will increase from six to eight cores and 16 threads according to the scheme. The new Ryzen 5 models are called Ryzen 5 3600, Ryzen 5 3600X and Ryzen 5 3600G. The last comes as APU with 20 additional Navi CUs and clocks the lowest. The base clock is 3.2 GHz, while the boost is expected to be 4.0 GHz. Like its brother Ryzen 3 3300G, it will not be launched on the market until the third quarter of 2019. The Ryzen 5 3600 and the Ryzen 5 2600X differ on the one hand in the clock rate and on the other hand in the TDP. The 3600 again relies on 65 Watt TDP, while the 3600X is specified for 95 Watt TDP. The clock rates are 3.6 (3600) and 4.0 GHz (3600X) in the base clock, while the boost clock is supposed to be 4.4 and 4.8 GHz, respectively.

Presentation at CES 2019, low prices

In his list AdoredTV also mentions prices and the presentation date of the individual processors. Seven models will be presented by AMD at CES 2019. These are the Ryzen 3 3300 and 3300X, the Ryzen 5 3600 and 3600X, the Ryzen 7 3700 and 3700X and the temporary flagship Ryzen 9 3800X. The absolute flagship, the Ryzen 9 3800X, will be presented in May. Also the APUs Ryzen 3 3300G and Ryzen 5 3600G will come later. They will be introduced in the third quarter of 2019 and possibly directly launched.

It remains to be seen when the Ryzen 3 processors will be available on the market. However, a recent leak from a Gigabyte event names the start of the X570 chipset at Computex 2019, which will take place in Taipei at the beginning of June. It is therefore likely that AMD will also be releasing Ryzen 3000 at this time. It also came to light that the Matisse processor generation, like Epyc 2 alias Rome, already uses the new PCIe 4.0 interface.

The prices have also not changed much compared to Ryzen 2000. The direct successors remain consistently at the same price level. The Ryzen 5 3600G at 199.99 US dollars costs a little more than the Ryzen 5 2400G, the Ryzen 3 3300G also starts with 129.99 US dollars significantly more expensive than its predecessor 2200G. The newly created high-end class Ryzen 9 should have a price of 449.99 US dollars for the Ryzen 9 3800X and 499.99 US dollars for the Ryzen 9 3850X.

How realistic is the leak?

The question remains how realistic this leak can be. Basically, AdoredTV is not necessarily one of the most reliable sources. He also doesn’t name any sources from which he has the information, but confirms that he has checked the data with other sources. The fact that Kyle Bennett of HardOCP has also commented on this is, however, a clear indication that the basic direction is correct. He said most of the information is true. Therefore, we think it is likely that the top model of Ryzen 3000 could actually have 16 cores and that the other gradations of the core numbers are correct. However, the clock rates sound almost too good to be true. We therefore assume that such models will come onto the market, but the clock rates will be somewhat lower. We know more at CES 2019.

  1. AdoredTV is a VERY reliable source, go see his videos!
However, off course, he is just a medium, not the real source.
5.0 GHZ? Maybe, but even 4.8 on 12 cores would be a monster…

  2. He has been right about alot of things and has been slightly off a very few. I would say he is a very reliable source because when he puts out information he has a source and analyzes it based off of other factors. His predictions are never just a wish list like what some people have.

  3. This might be the first time in a very long time that I have upgraded my CPU when the chipset used was still the latest. If things turn out the way that everyone is saying then it will be a no-brainer to upgrade my 2700x to a 3700x or even a 3800x.

  4. This will be my first time upgrading builds since 2014 where i built my first pc only that changed over time was gpu: Sadly my cpu is holding me back big time, everyone else can get 100fps in most games meanwhile i’m slogging it at 45fps with massive dips.

    i3-4360
    FTW 1070
    8gb ddr3 1600 meh
    windows 10 16299 build

The i3 4360 is a Shitty CPU compared to what’s out now days. My poor 1070 can’t do 1080P even close to 60 due to shitty cpu maxing out since it’s a dual core with fake hyperthreading cores. I mostly game in 4K 30 because i can’t handle fps dips at all. When fps takes a nose dive you can feel it.

My new motherboard and new case should be here tomorrow hopefully. Mobo is a Gigabyte Aorus 450 case is DIYPC Gamemax BLK full size. CPU now i’m thinking i might wait on lol since it looks like we are getting some new ones soon.

    • Just wait for Ryzen 3000 series and you will be happy if you choose Ryzen 5 3600x 8 cores / 16 thread it will be like night/day for you.
