The Nvidia RTX 2060 will soon be on the market. This is now also indicated by the poor availability and the strongly decreasing price of the GTX 1070.
GTX 1070 falls below 300 Euros and disappears from the market
Nvidia is currently updating its desktop graphics cards. However, the Turing generation was first launched in the high-end market, where it has replaced Nvidia’s own flagships of the Pascal series. The GTX 1080 Ti, which competes directly with the RTX 2080, and the GTX 1080, which competes with the RTX 2070, have gradually disappeared from the market. Later there were even indications of an absolute production stop for the GTX 1080 Ti. One of the biggest hardware dealers in Germany, Mindfactory, even took all GTX models out of the range after a large-scale sale. Later, only a few models reappeared in the shop. For the middle class segment Nvidia still has nothing to offer. The GTX 1070 Ti, GTX 1070, GTX 1060, GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1050 are therefore still produced and sold by almost all dealers.
In the case of the GTX 1070, this now seems to change. The prices of the mid-range graphics card are in the process of descending at high speed. The cheapest model currently costs even less than 300 Euros. Also other models are currently significantly lower in price. As with the GTX 1080 Ti and GTX 1080, the GTX 1070 is also starting to disappear from the market. Thus, many models are listed at significantly fewer retailers than before. The reason for this is probably the upcoming launch of the RTX 2060.
RTX 2060: marketing material leaked, launch in second week of January
There is currently no successor for the middle class in the Turing generation. The RTX 2060 could at least partly fill this gap. Although it is the logical successor of the GTX 1060, its price is more on a par with that of the GTX 1070. In terms of performance, the 2060 is probably on a level with the GTX 1070. A recent leak of Gigabyte revealed that the RTX 2060 uses 30 compute units and thus 1,920 CUDA cores. This is exactly the same number as with the GTX 1070. 6 gigabytes of GDDR6 are used for the memory, while the GTX 1070 can rely on 8 gigabytes of GDDR5 memory. Although GDDR6 is significantly faster, the capacity of the 2060 is lower, which is why the first tests have to show how strongly the graphics cards compete. Whether the graphics card also contains raytracing hardware, as the RTX code suggests, remains to be seen.
Today there was another leak. On Twitter Andreas Schilling revealed two interesting details about the RTX 2060. Apparently the first marketing materials have already arrived at the board partners which the Twitter user published. Once again he confirms the capacity of the graphics memory of 6 gigabyte GDDR6. According to Schilling one should wait for the second week of January. Whether Nvidia will then publish more detailed information about the RTX 2060 or launch it directly is still uncertain. However, a direct launch would be logical.
