In a few days, Nvidia’s cheapest raytracing graphics card, the RTX 2070, will be launched. A 3DMark Time Spy result from the Turing card has now been leaked.

RTX 2070: Start next week, good availability

The Turing generation from Nvidia is quite popular, even with the high prices. The RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti are the high-end models of the new generation. However, good mid-range graphics cards would be more important, as there would be considerably more customers for them. Nvidia will soon cover this segment with the RTX 2070. The graphics card is the last planned raytracing model. It will probably sell just as well even though the prices are relatively high. Nvidia announced a price of 629 Euro for the own RTX 2070 Founders Edition, high-end models of the board partners like the MSI RTX 2070 Gaming X will probably reach similar prices. The cheaper models are supposed to start at 499 US dollars.

By next week, the time will have come. According to some sources, the availability of the graphics cards will also be significantly better than it is the case with the high-end models. So the RTX 2080 is available in many situations, but the RTX 2080 Ti is currently almost unavailable anywhere. Since the RTX 2070 is a more mainstream oriented graphics card, it is said that considerably more graphics chips and cards have already been produced. In terms of performance, a benchmark has now been leaked for the first time.

RTX 2070 slightly faster than the GTX 1080

The Leak is a Time Spy benchmark, which TUM APISAK published on Twitter. It shows three Time Spy results of the user “Shiina Mashiro-2”, two of them from September 16th, one from October 11th. These two results from September 16th are from the RTX 2080 and the RTX 2080 Ti. The result of October 11th shows a “Zotac Generic VGA” with 1.950 MHz clock speed, which can only fit to the RTX 2070 in terms of score. The processor used was a non-overclocked Intel Core i7-8700K. This combination reaches a total of 8,151 points, which is below the 9,266 points of the RTX 2080. It’s interesting to note that the GTX 1080 from the previous Pascal series achieves a good 7,500 points in a similar setting. The RTX 2070 is a good 8.6 percent faster than the GTX 1080.

If the benchmark is authentic, the performance of the TU106 chip is not quite stunning. It comes with 2,304 CUDA shaders, 144 TMUs and 64 ROPs as well as 288 tensor and 36 RT cores. With 2560 CUDA shaders, 160 TMUs and 64 ROPs, the GTX 1080 basically has a few more cores, but the clock rate is much lower. Since the tested version is already a higher clocked custom model, we don’t expect even the best models to deliver more than 10 percent more power than the GTX 1080. The RTX 2070 will be launched on October 17th. Shortly before that, there will probably be the first independent benchmarks. Then we know more.
