Today Intel surprisingly introduced a 28 core processor. The Xeon W-3175X achieves up to 4.3 GHz and will be available in December.

Intel’s first desktop 28 core CPU is a Xeon W

Today Intel surprisingly announced a 28 core processor in a livestream right at the beginning. It is called Xeon W-3175X and actually comes as a desktop processor. However, the CPU doesn’t come in the HEDT series Skylake-X Refresh or Cascada Lake-X, instead it comes as Xeon W. Intel mainly targets professional content creators, which could also indicate a very high price. However, the chip manufacturer still keeps silent on concrete details, but there is already some information.

28 cores, up do 4.3 GHz, hexa channel interface

The Xeon W-3175X comes obviously with 28 cores and is based on Skylake-SP. Intel doesn’t give a base clock for the processor, but does give a turbo clock. The Xeon W-3175X is designed to reach 4.3 GHz. However, it remains unclear how many of the cores can reach the clock rate at all. Another interesting detail is brought to light by the test system shown. A total of 12 RAM modules can be seen in it, which strongly points to a hexa channel interface. Which clock rate the Xeon W-3175X can handle is not yet known. The new processor, will be launched towards the end of this year in December.
