The RTX 2080 Ti is significantly more expensive than its predecessor. EVGA is the first company to launch the RTX 2080 Ti for the $999 MRSP.

Nvidia Turing: Are the prices too high?

With Turing, Nvidia has not only introduced a new generation of graphics cards, but has also made considerable price adjustments. The launch prices were quite frightening for many potential buyers. An RTX 2080 cost at least 849 Euros, while an RTX 2080 Ti was available from 1.229 Euros in the best case. Nvidia had actually announced MSRPs of 499 US dollars for the RTX 2070, 699 US dollars for the RTX 2080 and 999 US dollars for the RTX 2080 Ti. The RTX 2070, which is available in Europe from 509 Euro, came closest to these prices.

However, the real joke of the whole story is that Nvidia currently offers the same performance for the same price. For example, an RTX 2080 costs at least as much as a GTX 1080 Ti, but doesn’t really offer higher performance. The same thing also applies to the GTX 1080 and RTX 2070. As a countermeasure, Nvidia is currently simply letting the GTX 1080 and GTX 1080 Ti disappear from the market. However, EVGA now offers a silver lining.

EVGA RTX 2080 Ti Black Edition Gaming for 999 US Dollars

Nvidia’s board partner has been the first to venture into the announced US MSRP with a low-cost custom version of the RTX 2080 Ti. The EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Black Edition Gaming is already listed in the American EVGA shop, but cannot yet be ordered. A look at the data sheet shows that the graphics card has a boost clock of 1.545 MHz, which corresponds to the standard boost clock. It is therefore probable that EVGA uses a TU102-300 chip here, which has a lower power target and therefore cannot be overclocked that well. Otherwise, the cooler design is practically identical to that of the stronger XC graphics cards. There is a transparent cover for the 2-slot cooler and two black fans. Of course, there is also RGB lighting.

When and at what price the card will be available in Europe is still unknown. EVGA also lists the same cooler variant with the RTX 2070 and RTX 2080, which also have the UVP price for 499 and 699 US dollars respectively.
